How to get started:
K.I.S.S. Keep it Super Simple, then Celebrate!
Clean 1 Drawer, 1 Shelf, 1 Storage box, or Set a Time Limit!
Set a small Goal. Achieve that! Then be consistent by setting another small goal.
Label 3 containers: To Get Rid Of; To Keep; and Garbage.
Have the three containers ready.
Take everything out of the drawer. Wipe out the area.
Then Sort!
Touch item and say “Do I Need this?”
Put in the container that it belongs to:
To Get Rid Of: Is item worth sharing so that someone else can use it?
Garbage: Is item beyond useful?
To Keep: I need this item and will use it.
Once everything is sorted,
*Put the “To Keep” items back in the drawer.
*Put the “To Get Rid Of” items near the door to go outside the next trip, to either be sold in a garage sale, or better yet, to be put it in your vehicle to be dropped off.
*Put the “Garbage” out in the bin immediately.
Don’t bring stuff back into the house!!!!!
You now have 3 beautiful empty containers ready for the next declutter!
Celebrate: Take a few minutes to have a cup of tea (or a few minutes of your favourite activity.) Smile!!!!
Then, if you want to continue decluttering that day start another small area. Maybe a shelf this time.
DO NOT expect decluttering to happen overnight!
DO NOT Sort Memorabilia, photos, keepsakes. Leave those to the absolute last!
Take photos of Stuff, before it is put out the door, if you want to keep a memory of it.
Sort only your OWN stuff! Hahaha
My husband and I agreed a long time ago, to NOT touch each others stuff other than to carry it out:)
